For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.

And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.

Conversely, Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.

We’re still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently on the market, and we hope to have an announcement on that shortly.

Of course each of these great games have their own specific cool features that may not be compatible with the other controllers, but this is our first big step in bringing a level of compatibility to music games that is sure to benefit PlayStation 3 consumers.

Super Stardust HD, a PLAYSTATION Network-exclusive released in June 2007, will be the first game to leverage Trophies and will offer a variety of trophies. Trophy support in Super Stardust HD will be available for first-time users who purchase the game soon after firmware v2.40 is released, while those who previously purchased and downloaded the title will be prompted to install a free patch.

PS3 users can expect to see additional games bringing Trophies support to their feature sets through 2008 and beyond, providing even greater opportunity to showcase their accomplishments and compete with friends. The following first-party games are also slated to offer Trophy support:

To further emphasize the community aspects of this system software update, the amount of people you can add to your PSN friends list has been doubled, to 100.

The update also adds a mini-control panel that you can use while playing music and an internet search feature powered by Google that allows you to initiate search directly from the XMB (similar to what we added to the PSP recently). In addition, when you’re using the XMB or accessing the XMB from in-game, the current time and date will be displayed in the upper right hand corner. There are a few more minor enhancements included in this update, once the update is live you’ll be able to read about them here.

Firmware v2.40 will become available for download on July 2nd. We hope you enjoy these much-requested features, and look forward to your feedback.

Shortly, we’ll be posting another video here on the PlayStation.Blog that shows the Trophy feature in action for the first time. At that time we’ll provide even more details on how firmware v2.40 will enhance your PLAYSTATION 3 experience.

Animefreak345’s homebrewed coverflow application for the PSP, PS-Coverflow (previous version here), is finally updated and beefed up with quite a lot of new features and fixes. Users can now expect some new visual elements such as a visualizer and progress bar. The option to customize the colors in the PS-Coverflow user interface is now finally available as well.

An image viewer is also added, letting PSP users preview picture files using PS-Coverflow. Check out the rest of the updates from the following changelog:

If you’ve ever been to an arcade, you’ve probably seen a Stacker machine. It’s a pretty simple coin-op arcade game where players need to stack blocks to win prizes. It’s harder than one would think and so practice is imperative if you want to get a major prize. Enter PSP homebrew developer Sangheili’s new release: PSP Pileup.

PSP Pileup is Sangheili’s entry to the Homebrew Idol competition (other entries include Resonate and Xadrez) and well, it looks pretty promising. In case you’ve never played Stacker, here’s a bit of a primer. Stacker has a grid and a set of blocks will go from left to right until you press stop. The blocks will appear for every row one at a time and you’ll have to stop all the block sets on top of the one below it. Here’s the changelog:

This digital TV service can basically turn your PlayStation 3 Console into a Freeview receiver and recorder, which can allow you to watch and record free-to-air TV programs. Every program recorded on the PS3 can then be exported to the XMB and stored there with other videos to watch at your leisure. The service will be priced at €99, although no specific date when it will go live was mentioned.

In addition, PlayStation Portable users don’t have to feel left out since the video and movie download service Go!View will also be going live soon. Reeves mentioned that Go!View will be released by the end of June (the 30th to be exact) and will be available in either subscription or pay-per-view packages for PSP owners in the region.

According to the two, as of now, Final Fantasy XI is home to a total of 32 Worlds populated by 1.7 million characters and half a million registered users. Among these, the two continued, the server with most happenings is the Odin World.

“When compared with the average numbers of 55,000 characters and between 15,000 and 16,000 users per World, the Odin World in particular stands out with a staggering 70,000 characters and 23,000 registered users as of the end of March,” said PlayOnline.

While this is generally good news, PlayOnline and Square Enix cautioned that overpopulation is not good for any MMORPG. That’s why a free character transfer was offered to the residents of Odin. Aside from that solution, the developers also outline the following:

Removal from the list of destinations for a World Transfer or the list of Worlds available on the character creation screen, as well as continuing to provide free World Transfer services, are some of the ideas being considered for overpopulated Worlds.

Terra Incognita is a very nice RPG ported from the pc version. The game has high production value and features a very nicely designed and drawn 3d world . This is not your average homebrew but a full blow, fully developed game. It’s by far the most impressive homebrew game so check it out now.

It’s a little different from our usual stuff but this is a homebrew drum machine for your PSP! It’s very polished for a homebrew app with a ton of features. you can even export your little creations to WAV.

Sorry to everyone who have updated their PSPs, but i do see progress in the hacking scene for a possible downgrade.

First release of a great homebrew tetris game. This is for 1.5 firmware psp’s only. It’s got a pretty sorry grey background right now but we’ll be releasing new versions with a couple selectable themes in the next few days.

If you can’t wait you can hack your own backgrounds into game yourself!

This will update the Homebrew PSP Chess game by cwbowron to the latest version or it will install a new game if you didn’t have it before.

The change for the v0.16 release are:

– Fixed a bug in save game
– Darken board when thinking…
– Automatically load book
– Switched to pspsdk beta 1.0
– End game tests (draw by rep, draw by no material, checkmate, stalemate)

This is the latest version of the Casino Addict Game, v0.6. This version adds a new poker game and includes a bunch of bug fixes and visual tweaks.

This game still only runs on 1.5 firmware PSPs.

No major breakthroughs, so this is for 1.5 firmware PSPs only. This is one of the most polished games out there right now and awesome for a first release (v0.1). It’s a good port and you definitely get a taste of the highly addictive bejeweled gameplay. just in time for any holiday travel. cheers. You can talk to the author here.
