It’s one thing to be getting vids and screens all the time, it’s quite another if we get some more info about the story. That’s what we have today for the Square Enix Summon monster spin-off, Blood of Bahamut.
We’ve gotten quite used to the idea of calling on the Summon monsters when in need of clearing baddies. In case you didn’t know yet, you won’t get such help from Ifrit and the others this time around. In fact, you will get a taste of your own FF-medicine and the Summons will let loose on you and your party.
You will play as Ibuki, the last summoner left in the world, which is inconveniently filled with huge monsters. In Blood of Bahamut, the power to Summon comes from the souls of dragons in a Summoner’s body. Because of this, the summoner is able to transform and be all cool, while everyone else is envious of the power.
For the cause of our hero, Ibuki, his power comes from the White Dragon. There is a Black Dragon, too, however, so it’s likely that there’s another summoner out there somewhere. All your struggles, through Ifrit and Gilgamesh, lead up to your encounter with Chaos Bahamut, which seems to be the guy to beat in the game.
Chaos Bahamut appears only before those who’ve beaten all the aforementioned giant monsters, and he comes complete with the usual god-like powers and regally awesome looks. It’s likely that Chaos Bahamut will also be the game’s final boss, give or take a few forms, unless he pulls a Golbez-Zemus-Zeromus twist towards the end.
The August 6th Japanese release still stands, but we’ll keep you posted for updates all the same.
