How would you respond if someone told you that your game was only five hours long? In response to Chris Kohler’s comments about God of War: Chains of Olympus, Ready At Dawn director Ru Weerasuriya offered his own thoughts about the matter during a recent interview. He also talked about certain ideas that Ready At Dawn once considered implementing into the game.
While Weerasuriya admitted that there have been people who ve finished God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War 2 in five to eight hours, he stated his own opinion about Kohler’s assessment of the game:
I don’t think “very, very short” is a good assessment. It s always hard to put a playtime length to any game. I just had a journalist tell me that he finished it in nine hours and had started a second playthrough. Some have already logged in more than 20 hours. So to each his own.
When quizzed about crazy ideas that Ready At Dawn may have had for this installment of the God of War franchise, Weerasuriya laid a number of them out: multiplayer, PvP, co-op and the option of playing as different heroes from Greek mythology, such as Hercules or Achilles. Unfortunately, these features ended up on the cutting room floor due to time constraints. The director said that they also decided to leave these features out in order to stay true to the spirit of God of War series.
Weerasuriya also touched upon a number of other topics, such as the other stuff they had to cut out of the final product and the learning process that Ready At Dawn went through while developing God of War: Chains of Olympus.
